Laugh Out Loud!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week, The Weekly Beet reveals why laughing is definitely the best medicine of all! Mary Kent laughs out loud, exposing the natural yet powerful health benefits of laughter.
We all have experienced what it feels like to have a good laugh! Feelings of warmth, joy, relaxation, positivity, an aching diaphragm, and an increase in energy all stem from the natural act of laughing. With no prescription needed and no regulation from the FDA, laughter is the ultimate cure-all for the mind, the body, and the spirit. From boosting the immune system to protecting the heart, laughter is one of the most naturally effective forms of therapy. In 1976, laugh therapy was recognized by the medical community for its healing powers thanks to Norman Cousins, who therapeutically put laughing to the test. Cousins cured himself from the life-threatening Bechterew Disease by using laughter as medicine. Now, that's what we call unBEETable!
But, with the average child laughing about 400 times a day and the average adult laughing only 15, statistics are proving that adults are not laughing enough. Here are the top reasons why we should all be laughing much more. Laughing:
  • Boosts immune system by fighting infection and increasing T-cells and B-cells.
  • Lowers blood pressure.
  • Relaxes the muscles.
  • Alleviates pain, aiding in the healing process.
  • Reduces stress, anxiety, anger, grief, and depression.
  • Improves cardiac function, protecting the heart.
  • Lifts the mood, triggering the release of endorphins.
  • Promotes positive thinking.
  • Helps normalize blood sugar levels.
  • Burns calories and exercises the diaphragm, abdominal, respiratory, facial, leg, and back muscles.
  • Benefits the digestive system and food absorption.
  • Connects you to others and heals relationships.
Here are a few ways to increase laughter on a daily basis:
  • Increase your exposure to funny material. Watch hilarious movies, read jokes and comic books, find funny websites, or go to comedy shows.
  • Surround yourself with fun, happy, and positive people.
  • Don't take yourself so seriously! Learn how to laugh at yourself.
  • Take a laughing lesson from a child. Children can be the best teachers!
  • Learn some laughing exercises. Click here to see the laughing yogi in action.
    Don't be shy, laugh out loud! Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week.
    Love,
    Mary Kent
