This week, The Heart Beet reports on one healthy fruit that just might get you bloody drinking! Mary Kent reports on two guys who are making something fat out of something rather juicy!
Ok. So, it's not every day that I have a fabulous client who creates a tasty Bloody Mary Mix and just happens to partner up with a good friend of mine from high school. AND, it doesn't happen every day that I'm with my client who happens to be picking out colors for his company's Fat 'N Juicy logo and I get to shed my artista vision on his logo. Definitely in the right place at the place right time because, I have to say, the red and green tomato logo my friends went with on their Fat 'N Juicy label is absolutely adorable! Yay! I love my awesome friends, Joe Good and John Glenn, the dynamic duo behind the recently started Fat 'N Juicy, a killer Bloody Mary Mix that will definitely get you drinking the red stuff. That is if you're not already a fan of the Queen herself.
Now, we all know that a Bloody Mary is best had to remedy none other than a hangover! But, I caught up with my fabulous client, Mr. Joe Good, to ask him a few questions about the Bloody and his mix:
MK: Where did your Bloody idea originate?
Joe: In a 15 passenger van on the way home from a show John and I played in Atlanta. (THESE GUYS ARE MUSICIANS, by the way) We were having a Bloody Mary and decided we could make one better. We wanted to basically bottle a Bloody Mary bar in a bottle. It's loaded with all natural top shelf ingredients. You don't need to add a thing! Many people drink it straight without adding their favorite vodka.
MK: Why a Bloody Mary Mix?
Joe: It's such a popular drink in South Carolina. We always loved making jugs of our mix for tailgates. So, we decided to bottle it!
MK: Now, we know who made the final touch to your logo (ME), but who's Fat and who's Juicy?
Joe: Anyone who drinks a FnJ bloody is making it a Fat & Juicy day! So, you're both once you pour a glass! MK: Oh my gosh. I'm fat! I mean. That's fat. OK. Some people say the name Bloody Mary came from Queen Mary I. Do you know anything else about the history of the Bloody?
Joe: Yes I do. Many people argue the first one was made at the St. Regis in NYC. I went there last year and tried one of theirs...they need to start serving FnJ. That's all I'll say. haha
MK: Yes, I've been to Harry's Bar. I'll scream your praises the next time I'm there. Ok. So, what's your favorite vodka to use with your mix?
Joe: I love Svedka because it's good and inexpensive!
MK: What's your favorite brunch food to eat with your Bloody? (watch out, your nutritionist is asking you this)
Joe: Sprouts and berries...and bacon and eggs! Haha Made by Morningstar Farms, of course! All made of soy! Ya know, if you add spicy mustard and Frank's hot sauce that soy food isn't bad at all.
MK: When should you have a bloody Mary and when should you not? Is there an etiquette to drinking a Bloody?
Joe: Common times are between 10 am and 1 pm but there is no Emily Post chapter on it. We think people should drink them morning, afternoon, and night! Why not?
MK: I drank mine on Christmas Day! It was so tasty! Congrats Joe! Your Bloody Mix is on the move! The Piggly Wiggly is now carrying it and has been picked up by a few secret celebs in LA. YAY!!
Now, from a health standpoint there's a bit of sugary stuff added so we're not toting this one as the healthiest tomato juice on the market. We must remember this is a mix in a bottle, not just tomato juice. So, if you're dying for a healthy V-8 then go for brands like RW Knudsen and Lakewood, who make pure tomato juice with nothing more than just the fruit! However, I am toting Fat 'N Juicy as the best tasting mix I've ever had. It's unBEETable and definitely gets the Beet stamp of approval. Admitting, I slugged a few back on Christmas day and just loved the mix. I was in tomato heaven and was thrilled to be drinking my friends' endeavor. But, most importantly, I'm all about tomatoes these days! It's spring. It's getting super warm. And, it's the perfect time to be eating and drinking the juicy stuff. Definitely reminds me of being in Italy munching on tomato, mozzarella, and olive oil. Mama Mia!
Here's a few health tidbits to get you eating and drinking more tomatoes:- Tomatoes contain large amounts of vitamin C, providing 40 percent of the daily value.
- Tomatoes are filled with Vitamin A, Potassium, and Iron!
- Tomatoes have high levels of lycopene, an antioxidant known to prevent cancer!
- Eating tomatoes helps your heart, heals your cancer, and helps your colon.
- Drinking tomato juice helps your bones, reduces inflammation, and helps decrease cholesterol.
Get your Fat 'N Juicy on! Congrats to my friends who are taking the stuff big time! Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week.
