~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Post Fashion Show Trauma ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week, The Weekly Beet reports from behind the scenes of Charleston Fashion Week to uncover the truth about a health condition long experienced in the fashion world, but never truly defined. At last, Mary Kent goes fashionista, finding a remedy for the experience of what we're calling Post Fashion Show Trauma.
With the lights out and the excitement of Fashion Week over around the world, many fashionistas are left voiceless, exhausted, and drained, as they leave the catwalk for their long and slow journey home. Post Fashion Show Trauma, (or PFST for those in the know), is a term coined to define the uneasiness experienced when the rush of Fashion Week comes to an end! Each spring, for only a month the entire fashion industry goes into high gear attempting to manage the impossible! From New York to London, Milan, Paris, and now to Charleston, South Carolina schedules are packed with fashion shows, power lunches, parties, and appointments. But, as we all know, with every high, there always comes a low! Post Fashion Show Trauma is the result of high level stressings due to over-booked schedules, crazy deadlines, jet lag, irregular sleeping and eating patterns, non-stop socializing, drinking, smoking, and not to mention a bit of 'Kate Moss-ing'!! With such intensity like this, it's obvious the body is being set up for disaster. And, we all know what that feels like: a weakened immune system leading to flu-like symptoms such as fever, body aches, sore throat, loss of voice, and headache.
We've seen PFST first hand throughout the years with Elisa Rusconi, London's former PR Liason at Yves Saint Laurent, with the Requiem team in Paris, and now with shows just ending in Charleston. After much traumatizing and seeing the results firsthand, here's what we came up with to heal a bad case of Post Fashion Show Trauma:
- Give your body a break and book the next week solely for yourself.
- Catch up on those missed hours of sleep.
- See a nutritionist or reiki practitioner.
- Avoid Alcohol & Cigarettes over the next few weeks. Your body needs a break!
- Drink Green Tea instead of Coffee. The less caffeine the better, as your body needs to readjust!
- Eat healthy meals at regular intervals during the day. Eating late at night is a no no.
- Try Meditation and Yoga to restore inner peace.
- Read Dr. Judith Orloff's book on Positive Energy. It'll keep away those energy vampires!
Keep these tips handy for next season, so you'll be well-equipped to model your inner well-being, not just your Balenciagas! Don't forget to pack the following to AVOID PFST:
- Packets of Instant Oatmeal to eat with fruit for breakfast to give sustained energy throughout day.
- Healthy granola bars.
- Water for hydration.
- Detox Tea to cleanse the liver.
- Emer'gen-C for quick energy boost upon awakening.
- Rescue Remedy to ease stress during shows and transition afterwards.
- Echinacea to strengthen immunity.
- Lavender Oil to relax in bath and fight
insomnia.
Darling, do let us know how you're feeling! We care about your inner-being much more than what you're wearing. Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week.
