~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Beet of Palm Beach ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week, The Weekly Beet reports from the beaches of Palm Beach. We scoped out the health scene and found a few jewels that are definitely worth visiting.
On Saturday, one of our favorite Palm Beach residents, Binkie Orthwein, took us to the famous GreenMarket of West Palm Beach. A special thanks to Madame Orthwein for being in the "healthy know" of Palm Beach. The GreenMarket is known for its organic produce, its gourmet specialties, and its fresh seafood. The streets are lined with tents that house the infamous Captain Bill's Wild Salmon, Steve's Produce, and Siggi's Cheese Factory. You can buy everything from exotic orchids and teas to sprouts and organic fruit juices. Definitely don't miss Sunshine Sprouts. They sell hydroponically grown sprouts full of essential vitamins and minerals. The sprout varieties include alfalfa, clover, and mung beans. Sprouts are said to be one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. One thing we must warn you: stay clear of the Kettle Korn. It's a little too sweet and a little too salty. One kernel leads to eating the whole bag. It's pretty addictive and not the healthiest choice. The GreenMarket, located at City Hall & 2nd Street, operates on Saturdays from 7am-1pm. You can call (561) 659-8003 for more info.
We stopped by The Breakers Spa and were thrilled to see their extensive list of alternative therapies. They offer everything: Reflexology, Reiki, Detox Wraps, and Massage. We say go for Reiki if you're looking for the ultimate in deep relaxation. Don't know what Reiki is? Click here to find out. We must admit that the spa is pretty fabulous! It's definitely in a class all by itself. If you're looking for a luxurious treat, head to The Breakers Spa. We guarantee you will be pampered and taken care of in
the most incredible way.
We went a bit off the beaten path to a place called The Hippocrates Institute. Named after the founding father of medicine, Hippocrates, the Institute was founded by Ann Wigmore in 1956 and is one of the leaders in natural and alternative healthcare. The facilities aren't anything compared to The Breakers, but don't forget that looks CAN be deceiving. Right? There are so many programs and individual classes and offerings. We highly recommend checking out
Hippocrates whether for a lengthy stay, a massage or just a visit to their small, health store. It's truly a mecca of health and healing.
Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week.
Love,
Mary Kent
