Pop Papaya Over Tums!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week, The Weekly Beet reports on one of our favorite natural remedies. Papaya, long known for its high amount of Vitamin C, is now proving to give fast relief to any type of stomach upset. When it comes to heartburn, we think it's better to pop a Papaya Pill than to reach for a chalky Tums.
Currently, an estimated 60 million Americans experience heartburn. Heartburn is caused when hydrolauric acid, used to digest your food, is released into the esophagus creating a horrible, burning feeling in the chest and throat that usually sets in after over-indulging in a big meal. Whether it's triggered by spicy foods or just plain overeating, heartburn can quickly creep up on the best of us!! We say throw out your bottle of Tums and get yourself a bottle of chewable Papaya Pills from the healthfood store. Papaya, a luscious, tropical fruit, seems to be a miracle heartburn remedy as it contains something called papain, an enzyme that soothes the stomach, enhancing digestion. Papaya also has many other health benefits. We put the Papaya Pills to the test and must admit that not only do they taste amazing, there was no sign of heartburn or indigestion near our tummies! Our favorite brand is from American Health because they don't add any extra sugars to their Papaya supplements. Tums isn't the healthy choice as it can deplete too much stomach acid, causing even more indigestion. A decrease in stomach acid also diminishes your immunity to food born infections, enhancing the possibility of food poisoning. As always, we say why not go natural? In the end, your body will definitely thank you!
Eating Papaya raw does the trick as well. Slice it up and eat as a snack! We did!! A special thanks to Wild Oats for providing the luscious Papaya in the photo. We also recommend Aloe Vera Juice for heartburn.
Don't miss a Beet. Stay tuned for next week!
Love,
Mary Kent
